Cupcakes volunteering at The Alley

Cupcakes volunteered at The Alley hosted by Tom Douglas at the Bite of Seattle. We were there from 10:30 until 3:00. She had a picture taken with Mr. Douglas at the beginning of the shift. She worked hard and only took a short nap after lunch. She had lunch the same time that Daddy and Mama had a snack. Cupcakes stayed in the Baby Bjorn most of the day and got a lot of compliments for being a good and cute baby! (Mama is getting better at taking pictures of Cupcakes and her - yay!)

Cupcakes' two-week notice

Daycare gave us their two-week notice on Monday. Cupcakes' last day there would be July 31. Mama knew that was coming the previous week, so she had been very stressed out and calling to find another place for Cupcakes. Cupcakes and Mama had visited two home daycares, too.

Just recently Mama was told that Cupcakes had been screaming a lot and that teachers have had to take Tylenol for their headaches from her screaming. That was news to Mama if this had been going on for a while. Mama had suspected that something was up about three weeks ago after a month of reports of Cupcakes' increased crying and decreased milk consumption. Even though Cupcakes was all smiles when we checked out her current daycare at the very beginning, Mama felt like it was deja vu when she received the two-week notice. She clearly remembered asking whether they ever asked babies that cried too much to leave. Perhaps Cupcakes was already not liking it there the first month when it seemed as if she was still getting used to the place.

This week Cupcakes cried all day Monday and all afternoon Tuesday. Tuesday evening Mama decided that Cupcakes was not going back to daycare if she could help it. Ah-gong and ah-ma were more than generous to offer to take care of Cupcakes full-time until Daddy and Mama can find new care for Cupcakes. During this time many of you whom Mama has reached out to have offered great suggestions and tremendous emotional support. I appreciate you very much!

Cupcakes has carried over the screaming for the first time at home this week. She's always been so sweet and never cried much or loudly. Hopefully over time she will feel emotionally safe and revert to her calmer behaviors.

Thank you, Auntie Angela and Uncle Steve, for the cute outfit. Cupcakes just grew into the onesie top, but the pants are already very broken in, hee.

Cupcakes' six-month wellness check up

Cupcakes had her six-month wellness check up, and she's doing well. She measured 27" (85 percentile up from 70 percentile at four months) and weighed 15 pounds 5 oz (50 percentile still). Her head was 6 percentile (down from 7 percentile). Dr. Spector measured Mama's head and attributed Cupcakes' small head to Mama's genes. Cupcakes has not been eating much during her 10 hours at daycare. She has had as little as 1 oz and as much as 9 oz over the last month. Mama was ecstatic that Cupcakes has been growing well, especially since daycare has not been happy with her for not having started Cupcakes on solids yet. (Mama concluded that Cupcakes has been catching up with her feedings in the middle of the night.) Dr. Spector was pleased with Mama for having taken good care of Cupcakes.

We didn't have a good picture of Cupcakes before the doctor came in. The bubble book stays in the diaper bag, and Cupcakes was biting on it when Mama took the picture.

Did someone say chubby cheeks?

Cupcakes was tired after church. . .

First thing Sunday morning

Cupcakes woke up early Sunday morning and didn't want to go back to sleep. She agreed to go pick up garbage along the trail on Alki with Mama. Cupcakes held onto the additional hat, teether and pacifier that Mama packed her. Cupcakes whimpered but soon managed to take naps on and off with the constant stopping, backing up and turning around of the stroller. Yes, we took a short break for Baby and Mama bonding. Mama appreciated her for being a great trooper. Thank you, cutester!

Cupcakes at Chinatown fair

Cupcakes was everywhere. We had dinner in Chinatown, and the annual fair was going on. Cupcakes continued to explore the different textures there are with her hands at dinner.

Back to the West Seattle street fair

On a very hot Saturday we went back to the street fair with Uncle Michael and Auntie Penny. Cupcakes fell asleep in the heat. When she woke up Daddy and Mama put water in her hair to help her stay cool a little. When we got home, Cupcakes bonded with nature.

Cupcakes at the lavender festival in West Seattle

Okay, we were just in front of a house with beautiful lavender visited by a lot of bees!

Cupcakes' first solid food

Cupcakes has been eyeing solid foods for a few months. She got her first taste of banana two days after she turned 6 months. She really liked it and kept leaning forward for more. Cupcakes, Mama needs to get you baby spoons to better feed you with. :)

Cupcakes sat up!

Cupcakes sat up the morning after she turned 6 mos! Cupcakes helped Mama gather kitchen and bath items for a family in need. (This is also where Cupcakes sits when Mama's busy in the kitchen. She watches Mama and will reach and grab to keep herself entertained.)

Cupcakes & Mama's corn on the cob

Mama loves roasted corn! Cupcakes posed for a picture with Mama's first (and surprisingly only) cob at the West Seattle Street fair this year. (Oops, Cupcakes was a little tired.)

Visiting with great grandma for the third time

Cupcakes visited with great grandma for the third time. Luckily Great Auntie Monica and Uncle Richard were home, too! (Cupcakes met Uncle Richard for the first time.) Everyone loved Cupcakes!! Mama loves the four-generation picture with great grandma, ah-ma, Mama and Cupcakes.

Cupcakes had pretend tea at dim sum and sucked on a huge plum.
