First allergy outbreak
Cupcakes and Mama spent a day visiting with uncles and aunts at the WaMu Center. An hour after we left Cupcakes had her first allergy outbreak. Mama had gotten Cupcakes some milk at Starbucks, and she threw up the milk within five minutes. Mama later wondered whether the jug had soy milk that was not cleaned out very well in it. Cupcakes was known to be allergic to Starbucks' vanilla soy milk through breastfeeding.
Cupcakes didn't want the rest of the milk on the bus. She fell asleep right away in Mama's lap after a long day without a nap. She slept through being strapped into the car seat and all. Mama noticed in the rear view mirror that Cups kept scratching her ear. When we got home around six, Mama noticed that Cups' ears were swollen. Daddy noticed that the lower part of her face was red. The back of her neck was pink. When we undressed her to check, the folds in her arms and tummy down to the legs adjoining torso area was very red.
Daddy looked up the dosage and gave her some of his Benedryl. The redness in her face went away completely within two hours. The tummy was still red at two in the morning, so we gave her some more allergy medicine. Mama also noticed that the diaper area was seriously infected with the pee passing out the remnants of the allergic food item. Mama cleaned the area with water and covered it up with Aquaphor (thanks for this valuable recommendation, Auntie Jo).
Cups struggled and cried because Mama wouldn't let her scratch herself. She fell asleep on top of Daddy after the first waking at 2am. While both of them sweat, Mama was cold without her little toaster oven. At 6am Cups was able to fall asleep out of tiredness on Daddy's pillow after futile attempts to scratch herself.
Mama got Cups some baby Benedryl from Safeway on the way to daycare. She was good to have taken three sips even though she waved it away after the first. When Mama picked her up after her nap, most of the red in the diaper area had disappeared. Mama continued to apply Aquaphor.
We had dinner at Hae Nam (Korean food in Shoreline) with the Kim family - thanks to recommendations from Aunties Jeannette and Amy. It was a very fun experience, and we highly recommend the restaurant. Ask them to make fried rice with your leftover pork and calamari dish. They add kimchi to the fried rice - very yummy!
Cupcakes' diaper area was back to its normal state by bedtime - yay!
