For our last evening in Minneapolis we visited the Minnesota State Fair — a few days before it ended. Public transportation was very convenient. The bus got us there for $1.75 each. (Mama wondered whether there was a bus that would take one from Seattle to the Puyallup Fair without a transfer.)
Mama read about the Minnesota State Fair in a food magazine a couple months ago and wondered whether she'd ever have the chance to visit. There she was taking pictures. The magazine talked about the fair's being famous for having food on sticks. We were there to see.
All-You-Can-Drink-Milk for $1. . .interesting. . .
Auntie Karen with the Icee Bear. . .
Fried boiled egg inside potato with bread crumb. . .?!
Meatballs inside a long tater tot. . .
The fair turned out to be mostly about food.
The cream puffs looked very yummy, but we were very full from dinner. The food actually looked better than what we have at the Puyallup Fair. Mama regretted having had dinner a little, but fair food can only be so good for one, haha! Our eyes had their feasting for sure.
Pork chops on sticks. . .mmmm. . .
Bumper boats looked fun. Mama was too sorry that she couldn't fit in one.
Mama made room for corn — her favorite fair food.
There were a couple HUGE cookie stands where people waited in line to buy cookies. The cookies either came in paper cones or buckets. Auntie really wanted a bucket, but that would come with about four dozens of cookies. The cookies piled high, and we would have had to eat a dozen before we could close the lid. We were so full that Mama couldn't even entertain the idea. Mama asked this dad with two buckets coming back to the strollers and another dad to pose for a picture for Auntie Karen. He posed and offered us cookies. The cookies were indeed yummy. Thank you, very generous Minnesotan!
Bacon on sticks! These bacon pieces had some thickness.
We closed the evening with America's original root beer — very yummy!
Then we almost didn't find out way out. There were several entrances to the fair. Mama concluded that there were about five times the food selection as there is at the Puyallup Fair. She also noticed that there weren't as many things (other than food) on sale.
We had a great evening and a super trip. After going to bed around midnight for two nights in a row, we called it a night a little early that evening for the 7:30 flight the next morning.
